So, there I was enjoying this perfectly good time with my family, most of them I hadn't seen all year, And a friend calls me up, hey "when do you have to get back to work", am still running the dates through my head and then he says lets go to Dubai, first week of Jan. Am like, hmm, just like that, he was just like that. So I said, give me time to think over it, tomorrow i'll give you an answer. A sudden excitement hits me, never been out of Africa before, so yes I was excited for ordinary Dubai. I wasn't gonna give in to the whole "be the good girl" trip, travel with a man?? Eyebrows raised! It was a new year and I was just gonna live a little. So long and short, we get separate rooms. and I was off on my trip.
First impression.-The Airport
I have never been a fan of window seat option while flying(my local/domestic waka), as I often wonder what the hype was, there was often nothing to really see. My Co-traveler was nice enough to let me seat at the window. As pilot announced we were set for decent and we had to raise the blinds, wow, that was my first amazement, there were lights every where, and not lights in a scattered confused manner as I had often experienced, but the lights all trailed each other, amazing road networks all illuminated at equal distances, I was most pleased to notice one or two lights that seemed like they were not powered( Note: I even used the word seemed, cus somewhere deep down I knew a logical explanation existed). I was sure it was not some alien land, if things could still get spoilt.
My jaws dropped when we entered the Abu Dhabi airport, there was this lovely mosaic ceiling, that stretched from the center like a pillar and surrounded the entire space, felt almost like being inside a doughnut, not the center of the doughnut but the actual doughnut. Absolutely breath taking. Was a little bit tired and slightly worried as we were not sure where next to go from there, on the flight we were told follow the signage, but there were no signs leading to the bus that would take us to Dubai. We ask one of the airline attendants and he directed us to a Que at the Etihad counter we joined it. Our bus was scheduled to leave at 10:30pm and it was already 10:35pm, i wasn't that worried sha i i knew we were not dealing with Nigerians. But then that's just why I did not really take any pictures at the airport, besides everyone there looked like "its just one of those things we see everyday". On our way back, there was no way I was gonna form "one of those things i see everyday" I took out my phone and got some shots of the airport. Agree with me that it was an amazing sight. Only wished i had taken better shots with my Nikon DSLR.
We had opted for the bus ride option not only because it was cheaper but also because we though we would get to see part of the city while on the bus ride. But alas it was dark and am not sure concrete expressways make for good scenery.
